For Gatlinburg shopping at its finest, The Village is the place to shop, eat, relax and enjoy! Just past stoplight #6 on The Parkway in downtown Gatlinburg lies the Smokies’ most unique destination shopping experiences. Step in to an Old World atmosphere and enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of this favored Gatlinburg destination. Here you will find a collection of 27 unique boutiques, eateries, galleries and clothiers set in a quaint, European-themed village atmosphere. In 1965, two families purchased the property on which “The Village” now stands. Careful not to make any hasty decisions about the property’s future, the two families traveled extensively in search of ideas for the property. Over a three-year period they compiled hundreds of pictures with unique architectural and cultural ideas and consulted with architects to plan the design for a beautiful and unique shopping complex. In order to create the development in a style true to the faraway places that inspired the concept, they now began the search for architecturally appropriate building materials. Their search for old homes, churches and buildings that were being demolished yielded numerous unique items they could use for construction. They acquired thick roofing slates, heavy carved doors, antique trim moldings and gas lighting fixtures and handmade bricks to complete a sense of the Old World. Construction began 1968, and the first 18 shops were completed in 1970. The remaining 9 shops were added in 1982 to complete The Village as we see it today. The result is a place unlike any around.

Gatlinburg Inn
755 Parkway Gatlinburg Tennessee 436.5133 www.gatlinburginn.com
The Gatlinburg Inn certainly has a rich and intriguing past. It boasts a long list of past interesting visitors, like President Herbert Hoover, Dinah Shore, J. C. Penny, Liberace & First Lady Bird Johnson. The Gatlinburg Inn was built in 1937 by R. L. Maples, Sr. & his wife Wilma when the Great Smoky Mountains National Park was still in its infancy. The inn holds alot of firsts titles; it was Gatlinburg’s first newspaper, city offices, chamber of commerce, bank & the even the towns first dentist, Dr. Meaker had an office there. During the 1960’s the inn became a retreat for all coming to visit the Smoky Mountains. In 1967 Felice & Boudleaux Bryant stayed in the now famous room, 388, & wrote the song “Rocky Top”. Rocky Top has been the theme song for University of Tennessee ever since. The song was actually wrote to describe one of the three peaks of Thunderhead Mountain in the park where Appalachian Trail hikers cross over. Today the inn is still a quiet retreat surrounded by lush natural beauty nestled at the foot of the Great Smoky Mountains. It’s a haven of spectacular views where you can relax, take in Gatlinburg from a rocking chair on the front porch or walk just steps to take advantage of the attractions and shops as it is right in the middle of everything. The original rose bushes planted by Wilma Maples still grow on the grounds & the inn retains its family atmosphere where some families have kept coming for five generations.
The Gatlinburg Inn may have kept its original charm, but it has renovated & updated the rooms & amenities. Of 810 reviews on TripAdvisor, the inn is rated the 11th Best Value out of 135 Gatlinburg locations. Features & offering include:
