Dollywood Expansions
In June 2021 Dollywood announced a half-billion-dollar, 10-year investment campaign starting with a new resort: Dollywood's HeartSong Lodge and Resort, which is set to open in 2023. Dollywood's HeartSong Lodge and Resort will offer 302 rooms and feature high ceilings, exposed beams, and natural textures across the hotel's five stories. Other features revealed today include an atrium with four-story, lantern-inspired windows, indoor and outdoor pools, and an outdoor cove with gathering spaces, a communal fire pit, and a screened-in porch.
The new Intel Drone Light Shows during Dollywood's Sweet Summer Nights began in 2021. The show included nearly 400 drones and fireworks for a spectacular event during the park's Summer Celebration.
Fall of 2022 the Craftsman’s Valley will have Hoot Owl Hollow, featuring a number of owl-themed displays in the park and up in the trees.
Park president Eugene Naughton confirmed that the park would spend $15 million on upgrades to park restaurants. This will include the closing of the Hickory House in August 2021 to begin some extensive renovations, along with two other unnamed restaurants that will be upgraded over the off-season. This plan will continue into the 2023 season with the addition of a brand new restaurant somewhere in the park.
In August 2021 Dollywood broke ground on a new four-story, 136,000-square-feet residence hall complex at Dollywood will be able to host more than 750 seasonal employees and will cost roughly $20 million to develop. Tim Berry, Dollywood Vice President of Human Resources said: "Employee housing is a crucial piece of the employment equation in this area...", which refers to Sevier County's extreme housing and worker shortage (some of which can be attributed to the lack of normal J-1 workers because of Covid travel restrictions). As of November 2021 Sevier County's unemployment was the 4th lowest in Tennessee.
Dollywood officials and even Dolly Parton herself have been tightlipped about the new roller coaster. All that has been publicly said is "...it will be a multigenerational coaster, which would be for all ages and is slated to open in 2023. In early November the Pigeon Forge Planning commission approved a site plan within Dollywood for the new roller coaster, which will sit on a 20-acre pad in the northwest section of the park. The plan includes a track, load station and a que tent, maintenance building and food area. Please keep in mind that the 2 additional photos are not official. While speculation is riding high, we can all be asured that Dollywood's new roller coaster will be fantastic for the entire family!
